The shoreline, where land meets sea, is where it always starts.
This is the place I feel most alive.
Here I can see clearly.
My Cotswold studio is almost as far from the sea as it's possible to be in England, but the coastline is always in my mind as I work.
My current series of paintings explores Isolation, a theme that suddenly became more topical in 2020's pandemic although inspired by a trip to the Outer Hebrides a couple of years ago. I am looking at the fine line between blissful, intended isolation, with associated memories of pared back, simpler times, and the enforced, desperate isolation that Covid19 has now thrust upon many.
